3D Inspection software, CAD compare, CMM control
(2/3)
Comparing two shapes or surfaces to know the gap or distance between them:
A theoretical geometry imported through a CAD model with the corresponding “as built” model. This "as built" model can come from any coordinate measuring machine or measurement arm, which provides 3D point clouds.
Two objects made at different time. For example, a new object with an old corroded object.
Two digital terrain model.
This task of "comparing" two objects can be called: inspection, surface control, or CAD compare, if the goal is to make the comparison of CMM measurements with a CAD model.
The process to make 3D color mapping inspection is as follows:
Reading the reference model inside the software (in case of CAD model, through the IGES or STEP interface).
Reading the "as built" model from the CMM sensor.
Alignment or registration of the scan data on the CAD model.
Performing distance computation and color texture mapping.
Adding flags or labels.
3D inspection report edition or export.
Surface comparison; Making 3D inspection color mapping to compare CAD model with scan data and output report or spreadsheet file for further processing.
