Geometrical Shapes Extraction & Reconstruction

Dear User,

What is the best plane, cylinder or sphere... in a set of thousands or millions of points? What is the maximum or average error? Could I get a better solution by rejecting a number of points?

In 3DReshaper, the word "best" means the ability to handle a great quantity of points and find the "best" solution to your needs. There are two main options in the construction Menu:

  • Best Shape: this command computes the best shape from an entity (plane, cylinder, circle, sphere). The whole object is supposed to represent the shape; but you can discard the worst points.
  • Extract Shape: this command directly extracts planes, contours, holes and cylinders from a seed point lying on an object. You just need to adjust the tolerance. The "Ctrl" key allows you to modify your selection.

The 3DReshaper algorithms significantly increase the speed of point cloud processing and the model accuracy, both obtained from point cloud as 3D mesh.

These geometrical shapes can be used for different purposes:

  • To be exported into CAD-CAM software with or without sections.
  • To make geometrical constructions: projections and intersections (planar in particular to draw the sharp edges).
  • To make measurement and reports: distance between two holes or planes, planarity...

3DReshaper 5.3

A single click on cloud or mesh to extract planes, cylinders, contours, holes... Distribution and standard deviation are instantly displayed on the screen. The extracted contours are polylines and can therefore be redrawn (see: Stretch Curves).
